Legal Advocacy and Policy
Individual and Systemic Advocacy
We are currently focusing on our systemic advocacy work to promote the health, equality and dignity of teenage girls and young women who are living in poverty. Our outreach programs are targeted to support teen girls in poverty, both through partnerships with schools and other organizations.
While JFG has extensive experience advocating for individual teenage girls and this remains one of the pillars of our organization, we are currently unable to offer individual advocacy services due to funding and capacity limitations. We are working to develop and relaunch our individual advocacy program in March 2021.
If you or someone you know is in need of individual advocacy, please do not hesitate to contact our Director of Advocacy, Sue Brown, at sue@justiceforgirls.org and we can provide support in connecting you to other resources.
Girls' Rights
Right to Freedom from Violence
Violence against girls--from domestic sexual and physical abuse, infanticide, sexual exploitation and assault-- is a serious violation of girls’ rights globally. Canadian girls face disturbingly high rates of violence.
Economic Rights
Since its inception in 1999, Justice for Girls has advocated for girls’ rights to adequate housing and an adequate standard of living.
Civil and Political Rights
Justice for Girls monitors, documents, and responds to human rights abuses within BC youth prisons and holding cells (city and court).
