R.v.Dunning

BC COURT LENIENT ON MAN WHO SEXUALLY EXPLOITED TEENAGE GIRL

On March 14, 2003 Kenneth Wayne Dunning, a businessman in his sixties, was sentenced to two months of house arrest and two months of probation by the Kamloops Supreme Court of BC after he sexually exploited a teenage girl.

Dunning was found guilty of procuring sexual services from a child under Section 212.4 of the Canadian Criminal Code. He is serving his house arrest in the same home in which he exploited the teenage girl.

The government of Canada pays lip service to girls who are being abused when it claims to be serious about ending sexual exploitation. Firstly provincial governments cut already unliveable welfare rates and remove other essential programs. Secondly courts continue to put girls at risk by giving violent men shorter and less restrictive sentences than girls are given for petty theft.
